DALLAS, Pa. — The New Jersey City University women's volleyball team suffered a pair of non-conference three-set defeats on Saturday, Oct. 14, first to tri-match host Misericordia University and then to Messiah University.
NJCU (2-13) saw a strong effort from rookie middle blocker
Brianna Melanson (South Brunswick, N.J./South Brunswick) in the first match, as she posted a team- and season-best eight kills on 13 swings with just two errors (.462 hitting percentage) to go with a pair of blocks against the Cougars (12-11). Additionally, junior right-side
Brenda Gonzalez (Union City, N.J./Dickinson) had four kills and three blocks, while rookie libero
Carly Everett (York, Pa./York Catholic) notched a match-best 16 digs and a team-high three aces.
The second match against Messiah (15-6) saw senior middle blocker
Ashley Jimenez (West New York, N.J./Memorial) lead the team with five kills, while Melanson had three more error-less kills. Sophomore outside hitter Marina Millet ended with a team-best eight digs to go with three kills of her own.
