Women's Volleyball Concludes Non Conference Play in Final Tri-Match of 2023

The New Jersey City University women's volleyball team competed in their last two non conference matches today, Oct. 28, ahead of their final conference match on Tuesday, Oct 31. They would be defeated in three sets by tri-match host Lancaster Bible, and then suffered a four set defeat to visiting counterpart Bard College.

NJCU's (2-20) junior middle blocker Ashley Jimenez (West New York, N.J., Memorial) recorded her 22nd and 23rdth blocks of the season in the first match of the day against Lancaster Bible (16-10), and freshman libero Carly Everett (York, Pa., York Catholic) notched a match-high 12 digs. The Chargers went up 2-0 while only conceding one lead change in both sets. The Green and Gold did not go down without a fighting, jumping out to a 19-12 lead in the third, and reclaiming their first lead since set one. Lancaster Bible would hold NJCU to three more points in the set, while going on a 13-3 run to secure the third and the win.

The Gothic Knights would then face the Raptors of Bard College (11-18) in the second match of the day. Similarly to match one, the Green and Gold found themselves down 2-0. Tied at 18 in the third, NJCU went on a 7-4 to win their first set of the day and extend the match. Bard would respond in the fourth by earning a 20-12 lead and looked to see of the Green and Gold. NJCU would respond with an 8-1 run to diminish the lead and put the Bard on their heels. In a back and forth end to the set, the Raptors would hold the Gothic Knights to two more scores and defeat them in four sets. Jimenez continued her fantastic day at the net, putting up three more blocks against Bard, and now leads the Green and Gold in the category for the season (26).
