CAMDEN, N.J. — The New Jersey City University women's volleyball team took on New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) foe Rutgers-Camden on the road on Tuesday night, Oct. 3. The Gothic Knights pushed the Scarlet Raptors to the brink in the first two sets, but ultimately suffered the three-set loss (25-19, 25-20, 25-12).
NJCU (2-7, 0-4 NJAC) saw junior co-captain
Brenda Gonzalez (Union City, N.J./Dickinson) notch a team-best nine kills, while her co-captain senior
Katrina Nguyendon (Union, N.J./Union) dished out a match-high 17 assists to go with a team-high-tying 11 digs for her second double-double of the season. Rookies
Carly Everett (York, Pa./York Catholic) and
Kiley Jurcisin (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) each cracked double digits in digs, as well, with 11 and 10, respectively.
The Gothic Knights fell behind by 10-point margin in the first set, but clawed all the way back with a 13-7 run to make it a 24-19 advantage for Rutgers-Camden (10-7, 2-2 NJAC), but unfortunately the home squad closed out that one at 25-19. Set number two was even closer as NJCU just kept bouncing back to stay in it. Down early 8-5, the Gothic Knights tied up at 8-8. Then, trailing 12-8, the Green and Gold eventually cut it back down to two at 19-17, including an ace from senior middle
Ashley Jimenez (West New York, N.J./Memorial) and a kill from sophomore outside
Marina Millett (Matawan, N.J./Saint John Vianney). However, six of the final nine points went to the Scarlet Raptors.
