Rodriguez' Postseason Honors Continue with First-Career WBCA All-America Honorable Mention

March 16, 2023

ATLANTA — The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) released its 2022-23 NCAA Division III Coaches' All-America Team today, Thursday, March 16. Among the 50 players from across the country to earn honors, New Jersey City University women's basketball junior guard Damaris Rodriguez (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) was selected as a Honorable Mention All-American. It is the first-career WBCA honor of any kind for Rodriguez and she becomes the first Gothic Knight in the program's 53-year history to earn any sort of award from the WBCA.

She adds this honor to her D3hoops.com First Team All-Region 4 accolades from earlier this week. Rodriguez places this recognition atop her already-lengthy list of awards this season, including D3hoops.com Preseason All-America, First Team All-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) and Conference Player of the Year, as well as multiple weekly honors from D3hoops.com Team of the Week, the NJAC and the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA). Rodriguez led all of Division III in scoring (24.3 ppg), total points (630) and made field goals (247) and was fourth in the nation in assists (6.2 apg). She led NJCU to a 17-12 mark, including 14-4 in NJAC regular-season play in 2022-23, highlighted by the program's first-ever NJAC regular-season title. Rodriguez also reached the 1,000 career points plateau in just her 49th-career game.
