JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The New Jersey City University baseball team extended its winning streak against Baruch College to seven in a row on Friday afternoon, March 24, as the Gothic Knights topped the Bearcats, 13-3, at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex.
After rookie righthander
Mike Napolitano (Belleville, N.J./Belleville) made the first start of his collegiate career — he tossed 2.0 solid innings, allowing one earned on three hits with a pair of strikeouts — senior
Julian Fernandez (Union, N.J./Union) came in and threw 3.0 innings, allowing two earned with four Ks to pick up his third victory of the season for NJCU (6-8), as the Gothic Knights have now won two straight.
The Jersey City bats, which combined to score 20 runs in the win on Thursday, March 23, stayed hot in the 13-3 win today. Four different Gothic Knights notched multiple RBI against Baruch (0-8), led by rookie third baseman
Dom Yarson (Ewing, N.J./Ewing), who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, a double and a stolen base. Things got started in the bottom of the first as senior second baseman
Jimmy Vizzoni (Hamilton, N.J./Trenton Catholic) knocked a two-out, two-run single up the middle to plate a pair, putting NJCU up 2-0. The Bearcats got one back in the top of the second, however the Gothic Knights answered with a run in the home half, courtesy of a double down the line in right by graduate student first baseman
Ricky Voss (Eatontown, N.J./Monmouth Regional).
With Fernandez now on the mound, the Green and Gold put two more across in the third. Yarson started it off with a run-scoring double to the gap in right before senior centerfielder
Caleb Ware (Newark, N.J./University) reached on an error at third to plate Vizzoni. NJCU plated three more in the fourth, starting with a one-out single to right by Vizzoni. He then stole second before he and Voss scored one at-bat later thanks to a double from Yarson.
Baruch's offense completed in the top of the fifth with two runs before Jersey City scored five more over the sixth and seventh to end the scoring at 13-3. Yarson started it off with a single to plate junior designated hitter
Garrett Allo (Monroe, N.J./East Brunswick Tech) before Vizzoni scored on a sac fly from Ware in the next at-bat. In the seventh, after freshman shortstop
