EWING, N.J. — The New Jersey City University softball team faced off on the road today, Friday, April 7, with The College of New Jersey for a pair of New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) contests. The Lions topped the Gothic Knights 12-0 in game one before winning game two, 10-1.
Game one saw NJCU (9-11, 1-5 NJAC) juniors
Emily Tunney (Mays Landing, N.J./Oak Crest) and
Sam Miller (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) go 1-for-2 each, with Miller's hit being a double. Sophomore
Victoria Devoto (Ridgefield, N.J./Immaculate Conception) was also 1-for-1 in this one. Miller also got the start in the circle and recorded a strikeout in 1.1 innings pitched before she was relieved by classmate
Sidnie Dabbadie (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs), who threw the final 2.2 innings, striking out two more Lions (15-7, 5-1 NJAC).
Jersey City took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first in game two as Tunney led off with an infield single to short before Dabbadie knocked her in with two outs on a RBI double to the gap in right. Tunney finished 1-for-2 with a run, while Dabbadie was also 1-for-2 with that RBI double. Miller again was 1-for-2. Tunney made her second start in her fourth appearance in the circle in this one, going the full 4.0 innings with a strikeout.
