ONEONTA, N.Y. — The New Jersey City University men's tennis team was on the road on Saturday, April 8, for its second New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) East Division match of the season. The Gothic Knights faced off with SUNY Oneonta and took care of the Red Dragons, 7-2.
NJCU (7-6, 2-0 NJAC) got things started in doubles action with a pair of wins over Oneonta (4-10, 1-2 NJAC) as junior
Gerard Loras (Tortosa, Spain/Col·legi Diocesà Sagrada Família) and freshman
Pedro Caro-Accino Roca (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain/British School of Gran Canaria) earned the 8-3 victory at third doubles. The first doubles pairing of juniors
Nico Teynie (Rouen, France/Lycée Val de Seine) and
Alejandro Ley (Las Palmas, Spain/I.E.S. Politécnico) then won 8-2 to give the Gothic Knights the 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
Teynie continued his dominance by winning via a 6-0, 6-0, shutout at first singles. Caro and sophomore
Joaquin Pluis (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Santa Felicitas) each won their matches at third and fifth singles, 6-2, 6-3, to make it official, putting Jersey City up 5-1 at the time. Junior
Jordi Julia (Barcelona, Spain/IES Sant Quirze del Valles) won, 7-5, 6-3, at fourth singles. The final two matches to finish on the day were the tightest of the afternoon. Ley won at second singles in a second-set tiebreak, 6-1, 7-6(3). Loras fell in three sets at sixth singles, 2-6, 7-5, 11-9.
