Men's Soccer Suffers 2-1 Loss to Kean

UNION, N.J. – The New Jersey City University men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 defeat to Kean University in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action on Saturday, October 12.

The Gothic Knights (6-5-3, 0-4) tallied seven shots and put three on target while Kean (3-7-4, 1-2-1) fired off 12, putting eight on frame. Joao Autran (Itatiba, Brazil/Objetivo) led the way with three shots with one on goal with Hans Zoller (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Kearny) registering the lone goal of the game for the Gothic Knights.

Kean was the first to threaten in the game forcing Dominic Cunha (Rahway, N.J./Rahway) to make a save in the first three minutes. For a majority of the opening half, the game was played between the boxes with the teams combining for just six shots. The Cougars attempted to take a 1-0 lead before half, but Cunha was up to the task and made the save to send both teams into the half scoreless.

The Cougars came out aggressive in the second half and put a pair of shots on frame in a quick frenzy that were parried away. The games first goal came from the penalty spot in the 68th minute. Zoller converted from the spot for his team leading 5th goal of the season. Seven minutes later the Cougars tied the game up on a goal by David Camargo. Kean doubled its tally seconds later and took advantage of a mistake to take a 2-1 lead that they held onto until the final whistle.
