MAHWAH, N.J. – The New Jersey City University men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss to New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opponents, Ramapo College on Wednesday evening.
NJCU (6-6-3, 0-5) tallied a game-high 17 shots with nine on target while Ramapo (8-2-3, 3-1-1) recorded nine shots with five finding the mark. Lennox Nunez (Linden, N.J./Linden) played the full 90 minutes and made two saves in the game. Offensively, Christan Palmer (Union, N.J./Union) paced the team with five shots for the Gothic Knights.
The Roadrunners opened the scoring ledger in the first minute of the game. Gianfranco Ponce took a pass from Jalal Khalifeh and beat Nunez for the game's opening goal. The Gothic Knights responded by going on the offensive and forced Nikolai Matthews to make four first-half saves.
In the second half, the Roadrunners doubled their tally in the 51st minute behind a goal from Ponce for his second of the game. Once again, the Gothic Knights remained the aggressor, however, they could not unlock the Roadrunners' defense to find the back of the net. In the 67th minute, Ramapo found their third tally of the game on a goal by Elton Mani. With a three-goal lead, the Roadrunners deflected wave after wave of attacks by the Gothic Knights to hold onto the shutout.
