Women's Volleyball Falls to Stockton in Straight Sets

GALLOWAY, N.J. – The New Jersey City University (NJCU) women's volleyball team faced a setback in their NJAC matchup against Stockton on Tuesday, Oct. 22, falling 3-0 with set scores of 25-20, 25-17, and 25-9.

The Ospreys (15-6, 4-2 NJAC) showcased a stronger performance with a hitting percentage of .245, while the Gothic Knights (10-12, 2-3 NJAC) struggled, finishing with a .022 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter Brenda Gonzalez (Union City, N.J./Dickinson) led NJCU with five kills, six digs, and two aces. Sophomore libero Elisabeth Brito (Jersey City, N.J./Union City) added six digs, freshman setter Keyanni Overstreet (Port Arthur, Texas/Sabine Pass) contributed 13 assists, and junior right-side Kiki Lugo (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) achieved a career-high with three total blocks.

In the first set, NJCU started off trailing 8-6 before Stockton surged ahead with a 9-3 run, taking a commanding 18-6 lead and ultimately winning the set 25-10.

The second set saw the Gothic Knights up 3-1 before the Ospreys went on a 7-0 run, extending their lead to 8-3. NJCU managed to narrow the gap thanks to a couple of kills from junior outside hitter Marina Millet, but Stockton maintained control to win 25-17.

The Ospreys continued their dominance in the third set, establishing a 14-9 lead before launching an impressive 11-0 run, capitalizing on only three errors from the Gothic Knights. They closed out the match with a decisive 25-9 win.
