Women's Soccer Blanked by #10 TCNJ, 3-0

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The New Jersey City University women's soccer team dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game to #10 The College of New Jersey on Wednesday, October 23, 3-0.

NJCU (5-4-6, 1-4-2) tallied 11 shots with three forcing a save from Ellen Williams. TCNJ (13-0-2, 7-0) used 13 (6) shots to net three goals in the win. Gineth Arias Martinez (Soacha Cundinamarca, Colombia/Institución Educativa Leon XII) paced the Gothic Knights with three shots in 90 minutes while Lorraine Valenzuela (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) and Sophia Mannino (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Township) split time between the pipes.

The Lions scored all three goals in the opening 45 minutes with the first goal coming 11 minutes into the game. A quick one-two connection by Abby Najdzinowica and Alyssa Alfano opened the scoring for the Lions. Mannino was tested again shortly after but was up for the task and parried away the attempt by Ava Curtis. At the 32nd-minute mark, TCNJ struck again via a goal from Victoria D'Imperio. Taylor Bielan and Jenny Ward teamed up to set D'Imperio up for a golden opportunity. Six minutes later, the Lions struck one more when Jenny Ward poked a shot into the back of the net right before halftime.

NJCU's offense outshot the Lions six to five in the second half but could not unlock the Lions' defense. Both Arias Martinez's shots on goal came in the second stanza, forcing Williams to make a pair of saves to keep the Gothic Knights off of the scoreboard. Amanda Papamanolis (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) nearly found the back of the net with five minutes to go but her shot was blocked away from harm as the Lions secured the shutout and kept their record unblemished.
