MADISON, N.J. - The New Jersey City University (NJCU) women's soccer team secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over No. 5 Juniata on Saturday, Nov. 16, to advance to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) semifinals.

NJCU (7-5-8) dominated the match offensively, outshooting Juniata (8-8-3) 22-4, including 8-3 on target. The Gothic Knights also held an edge in corner kicks (7-5), while junior goalkeeper Sophia Mannino (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Township) made two crucial saves.

The match saw NJCU take the lead in the 31st minute when junior forward Beatriz Oliveira (Newark, N.J./Newark East Side) scored the first goal of her career. However, a foul by the Gothic Knights in the 79th minute allowed Juniata to equalize with a close-range free kick.

With less than 10 minutes remaining, NJCU responded aggressively, registering seven shots in quick succession, two of which hit the goalposts.In the 88th minute, a corner kick found freshman defender Kyanah-Belle Jean-Louis (Montreal, Canada/Washington Township (N.J.)), who headed the ball into the top right corner of the net for the first goal of her career, restoring the lead for NJCU.
