Men's Basketball Falls to Farmingdale, 79-73

FARMINGDALE, NY - Jaheim Lewis (Hillside, N.J./Hillside) and Hakeem Wilson (Newark, N.J./North Star Academy) paced the Gothic Knights with 14 points each in the 79-73 loss to Farmingdale in the final tune-up before New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play begins.

NJCU (3-2) shot 44.8% from the field and 86.7% from the charity stripe with Avante Gilbert (Paterson, N.J./International) and Isaiah Johnson-Williams (Jersey City, N.J./Don Bosco) adding 12 points each. Farmingdale (2-2) shot a red-hot 55% from the floor with a team-high 22 points from Michael Notias.

Seven minutes into the game the Gothic Knights trailed by six, 14-8, until NJCU responded with an 8-0 run led by five points Johnson-Williams. Play continued to go back and forth, however, Farmingdale began to take control and pushed its lead out to seven with 3:08 remaining. Just when the Gothic Knights thought they were shifting momentum back in their favor, Farmingdale hit a three right before the half to carry a six-point lead into the break.

With 12:13 remaining in the game, the Gothic Knights trailed by their largest deficit of the game (11). Five minutes later, Bakhi Rogers-Robinson (Orange, N.J./West Caldwell Tech) cut the lead down to five with a three-point basket. A slight surge by Farmingdale saw them extend their lead for a brief period before the Gothic Knights came within striking distance once more. Wilson cashed in on a jumper to bring NJCU within two with 2:12 to go, but Farmingdale bolstered its lead to seven with 34 seconds remaining to fend off any rally by the Gothic Knights.
