NJCU Sprints Into the 2024-25 Season With Top Finishes at the Wesleyan Winter Invite

MIDDLETOWN, CT - The New Jersey City University men's and women's track and field squads started their 2024-25 campaign on Saturday, December 7 at the Wesleyan Winter Invite. Reyanna Henderson (Pemberton, N.J./Pemberton Two) broke the 600m program record and Tonna Ogina (North Brunswick, N.J./Highland Park) has qualified herself for the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Indoor Championships in the high jump.

The women's squad had several podium finishes on the day, but none higher than Ogina who finished first in the long jump with a distance of 4.97m and first in the high jump with a height of 1.59m. The women's 4x400 relay (Jezena Aponte (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder)Reyanna Henderson (Pemberton, N.J./Pemberton Two)Raven Orange (Carteret, N.J./Carteret)Evelyn Wymer (Toronto, Ont./Notre Dame (H.S.))) also took gold with a time of 4:25.22. In the sprints, Orange took second in the  200m dash (27.03) and fourth in the 60m (8.30). Henderson and Asia Speights (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Township) finished second and fifth in the 600m with times of 1:45.67 and 2:01.30, respectively. Rounding out the women's side was Shyanne Anson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) who took second in the weight throw (11.14m) while Lucy Pelaez (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) finished eighth (7.90m). 

For the men, it was Isaiah Ramirez (Edison, N.J./John P. Stevens) leading the charge with a first-place finish in the 600m with a time of 1:26.86. Dario Joasil (Roselle Park, N.J./Roselle Park) finished fifth in the 400m, registering a time of 54.91. The men's 4x400 relay team (Jeremiah Saunders (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfied)Isaiah Ramirez (Edison, N.J./John P. Stevens)Dario Joasil (Roselle Park, N.J./Roselle Park)Anthony El Helou (Beirut, Lebanon/Kfarchima)) crossed the finish line in 3:43.49, good for fifth. In the high jump, Kenny Balisage (Roselle, N.J./Roselle Park) took fifth with a height of 1.65m. Pratt Charles (Jersey City, N.J./University Charter) also finished fifth in the long jump, registering a distance of 6.23m. 

Sirell Clark (Jersey City, N.J./University Academy Charter) finished eighth in the weight throw with a toss of 13.15m.
