COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. — The New Jersey City University men's and women's track & field squads competed at the Ursinus College Track & Field Invite on Friday and Saturday, April 5-6, and, among a handful of personal records, the Gothic Knights combined to topple three more program records, including two for freshman
Jezena Aponte (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder).
Overall on the women's side, junior
Reyanna Henderson (Pemberton, N.J./Pemberton Two) PRed in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.41 to place fourth out of 43 runners. Aponte, as mentioned, was dominant on the track today and her program-record time of 2:26.29 in the 800-meter dash placed fifth out of 40 runners. Also in the 1500m, she broke her own program record with a time of 4:55.38 to place third out of 32 runners.
Junior
Ashley Adames (Jersey City, N.J./County Prep) placed seventh out of 18 jumpers in her collegiate debut in the long jump, notching a leap of 4.49 meters. Sophomore thrower
Shyanne Anson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) competed in three of four throwing events, but highlighted that with a PR of 9.21m to place ninth out of 25 in the shotput. Junior
Evie Tahmazian (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) came in 10th in the hammer throw with a toss of 29.70m.
Nine Gothic Knight men competed over the weekend, as well. Sophomore
Sirell Clark (Jersey City, N.J./University Academy Charter) set the program record in the hammer throw at 40.86 meters to place seventh out of 27. He also PRed in discus event with a toss of 34.66m. The 100-meter dash saw senior
Jason Garcia (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) (11.30), freshman
David Reyes (Keasbey, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial) (12.28) and junior
Jon De Jesus (Perth Amboy, NJ/Perth Amboy) (12.33) compete. Garcia's top time came in the men's final, in which he took home first place after placing fourth in the prelims (11.36).
Sophomore
Pratt Charles (Jersey City, N.J./University Charter) came in second place out of 35 runners in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.11 and also place third in the long jump out of 26 jumpers with a lead of 6.20m. Graduate student
Adnan Kpodo (Irvington, N.J./Irvington) was a few spots behind him in the 400m with a personal record time of 55.35 to place ninth. He and seniors
Jaime Tlatelpa (Jersey City, N.J./University Academy Charter) and
Topu Saha (Jersey City, N.J./William L. Dickinson) all took part in the 1,500m, notching times of 4:26.76, 4:45.19 and 4:34.45, respectively. The latter two also competed in the 800m with times of 2:10.18 and 2:10.36.
