July 18, 2024

PITMAN, N.J. — The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) released its annual Academic All-NJAC teams and 43 New Jersey City University student-athletes represented the Gothic Knights among the 1,249 overall selections from the 10 full-member and six associate-member institutions. NJCU was led by its two First Team selections in women's basketball junior Olivia Wooten (East Orange, N.J./Immaculate Conception) and men's track & field senior Topu Saha (Jersey City, N.J./William L. Dickinson), as well as the two Second Team honorees in women's track & field senior Ayriana Young (Jersey City, N.J./McNair Academic) and men's track & field graduate student Jaime Tlatelpa (Jersey City, N.J./University Academy Charter).

In order to be eligible for the Academic All-NJAC teams, a student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior who has competed in a conference-sponsored sport while earning a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20 over 24 credits at their respective institution. Freshmen and first-year transfers — with the exception of those from other NJAC schools — are not eligible. Each of the conference's 10 member institutions receive two First Team and two Second Team selections, as well.

The women's soccer program led the way for NJCU's overall selection, notching nine honorees, which was four hire than last year's total. Behind them was the softball squad with seven selections, three more than last year's total. The men's volleyball and men's track & field programs each had five honorees apiece this year — a massive jump for the former, with four more than 2022-23. Women's track & field had four selections, while men's soccer had three. Women's basketball notched a pair of honorees while men's basketball and women's volleyball had one each.
