Women's Soccer Shuts Out Immaculata

Nyrohah Alvarenga Tallies Two in 4-0 Win Against the Scottish Terriers

IMMACULATA, PA. – The New Jersey City University (NJCU) women's soccer team delivered a decisive 4-0 victory over Immaculata on Thursday, Sept. 12. Junior midfielder Nyrohah Alvarenga (North Bergen, N.J./High Tech) was a standout performer, scoring twice to secure NJCU's second win of the season.

NJCU (2-0-3) dominated defensively, limiting Immaculata (2-4) to just six shots, with only two on target. In contrast, the Gothic Knights fired 13 shots on goal, showcasing their offensive prowess.

Eleven minutes in, NJCU took a 1-0 lead when fifth-year forward Kim Brites (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) delivered a precise pass to Alvaranga, who finished with a shot to the lower right corner. In the 35th minute, freshman midfielder Sarah Reyes (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) set up junior midfielder Gineth Arias Martinez (Soacha Cundinamarca, Colombia/Institución Educativa Leon XII) for a goal off a free kick, adding a crucial insurance tally.

Alvaranga struck again in the 57th minute, converting another free kick into a goal with a well-placed shot to the lower left corner. She led the team with four shots on goal. With under six minutes remaining, Reyes found fifth year midfielder Shea Ramirez (Bogota, N.J./Immaculate Conception), who scored with a strike to the high right corner to complete the 4-0 victory.

This match marked the first-ever meeting between the Gothic Knights and the Scottish Terriers.
