Men's Soccer Secures Third Straight Win with 2-0 Victory Over Lehman

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The New Jersey City University (NJCU) men's soccer team continued its strong performance with a 2-0 non-conference victory over Lehman on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field. Junior midfielder Thiago Duarte (Newark, N.J./Newark East Side) shone with three points, leading the Gothic Knights to their third consecutive win.

NJCU (5-1-1) showcased impressive defense, not allowing a goal in their last three matches. Freshman goalkeeper Dominic Cunha (Rahway, N.J./Rahway) has been instrumental in achieving three straight shutouts. This afternoon, the Gothic Knights controlled all aspects of the game against Lehman (1-5), outshooting the Lightning 14-10 overall, including 6-2 on target. Lehman managed only two shots on target.

Duarte opened the scoring in the 27th minute, skillfully creating space in the box before firing a shot into the high center of the goal. Despite taking five more shots before halftime, NJCU went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

The match remained competitive, but with less than two minutes left, a Lehman foul set up a crucial free kick for NJCU. Duarte delivered a precise ball to freshman back Hans Zoller (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Kearny), who headed it into the low left corner, securing the victory with his fourth goal of the season.

Highlights:
- Duarte recorded his third goal and assist of the season, bringing his career totals to nine goals and 15 assists.
- Zoller leads the Gothic Knights in goals and points.
- Senior back Anthony Salmeron (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen), Zoller, and Cunha played the full 90 minutes.

Up Next:
NJCU will travel to Randall Island's Field #74 in New York, N.Y. for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference match against John Jay on Saturday, Sept. 21.
