JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The New Jersey City University (NJCU) men's soccer team continued its strong performance with a 2-0 non-conference victory over Lehman on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field. Junior midfielder
Thiago Duarte (Newark, N.J./Newark East Side) shone with three points, leading the Gothic Knights to their third consecutive win.
NJCU (5-1-1) showcased impressive defense, not allowing a goal in their last three matches. Freshman goalkeeper
Dominic Cunha (Rahway, N.J./Rahway) has been instrumental in achieving three straight shutouts. This afternoon, the Gothic Knights controlled all aspects of the game against Lehman (1-5), outshooting the Lightning 14-10 overall, including 6-2 on target. Lehman managed only two shots on target.
Duarte opened the scoring in the 27th minute, skillfully creating space in the box before firing a shot into the high center of the goal. Despite taking five more shots before halftime, NJCU went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
The match remained competitive, but with less than two minutes left, a Lehman foul set up a crucial free kick for NJCU. Duarte delivered a precise ball to freshman back
Hans Zoller (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Kearny), who headed it into the low left corner, securing the victory with his fourth goal of the season.
