Women's Basketball Wins Third Straight With Dominant 72-46 Win Over Ramapo

MAHWAH, NJ - The New Jersey City University women's basketball team won its third straight New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game against Ramapo, 72-46. The win marks the third consecutive win over the Roadrunners and the fourth in five meetings.

NJCU (6-10, 5-5) was led by Destiny Battle (East Orange, N.J./East Orange STEM Academy) who tallied a team-high 16 points while Na'Tori Postell and Elyssa Russo (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) added 15 points each. Kendra Rigo (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) and Autumn John (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) cleaned the boards to the tune of eight a piece which helped the Gothic Knights outrebound the Roadrunners, 37-29. Ramapo (2-15, 1-9) was paced by Alison Ahern's 12 points and Lauren Flatt's five rebounds.

Postell set the tone for the game for the Gothic Knights, hitting a three-point basket in the opening seconds. NJCU would go on to hit 11 threes in the game, good for their highest total of the season. After six minutes of play, the Gothic Knights saw their lead balloon out to 14 behind a Battle jumper.

That 14-point lead would remain the trend throughout the second quarter as the Gothic Knights continually stretched their lead to 14 after Ramapo cut it down. Emma Cartwright capped a 7-0 run by the Roadrunners before NJCU quickly pushed its lead back out to double digits.

NJCU recorded its highest point total of the game in the third, tallying 21 points while holding Ramapo to eight. Postell continued to find success from behind the arc and cashed in back-to-back to increase NJCU's lead to 20 with 2:45 remaining in the third quarter. With one minute left Russo increased the lead to 21 with a bucket from deep.

The Roadrunners' offense took a step forward, netting 13 points, however, they were not able to keep up with the Gothic Knights who closed out the game with another 18-point quarter to secure the win.
