Men's Soccer Drops NJAC Bout to #10 Rowan, 3-0

GLASSBORO, NJ | The New Jersey City University (NJCU) men's soccer team dropped its first New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game of the season, 3-0, to #10 Rowan University on Wednesday evening.

NJCU (4-6-2, 1-1) was held to four shots but put three of them on frame. Camilo Pascual Verdu made five saves in the game, four of which came in the second half. Rowan (8-2-1, 1-1) fired 17 shots at the Gothic Knights and found the back of the net three times. They also edged NJCU 6-2 in corner kicks.

The Gothic Knights were on their heels from the opening whistle, as Rowan took four shots in the opening 18 minutes. That constant pressure by the Ospreys eventually led to the game's opening goal in the 19th minute. Johnny Troiano opened the scoring ledger off of a pass from Jason Barragan to put Rowan up 1-0. The second marker of the game came 18 minutes later off of the foot of Franck Onguene. Rowan kept the pressure on but went into the break up 2-0.

In the second half, the Gothic Knights tested Rowan's goalkeeper, CJ Norton, twice, forcing him to make a save. Javier Pena and reigning NJAC Player of the Week, Augusto Vieira (Kearny, N.J./Kearny), both sent shots towards frame but were denied by Norton. Rowan eventually went back on the offensive, and as a result, Troiano found his second of the game to give Rowan a 3-0 lead. Trailing 3-0, the Gothic Knights couldn't muster up another attempt as they suffered their first NJAC loss of the season.
