NJCU Women's Basketball Falls to #2 Scranton in Season Opener

JERSEY CITY, NJ | The New Jersey City University (NJCU) women's basketball team fell to Scranton, 87-46, in non-conference action on Thursday night inside the John J. Moore Athletics & Fitness Center.

NJCU (0-1) was powered by Na'tori Postell (Passaic, N.J./Passaic Arts & Science Charter), who poured in a career-high 30 points on 9-of-20 shooting with four threes and 8-of-14 from the line, adding three rebounds. Kaylah Neal (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) followed with 10 points, five rebounds, two blocks, and one three, while Jhava Wilson (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central) chipped in three points and three steals off the bench. As a team, NJCU shot .326 from the field, hit 5-of-16 from three, but committed 27 turnovers. Scranton (3-0) shot .410 overall and dominated the glass 53-32 while scoring 32 points off turnovers and 33 second-chance points. Sophia Talutto led with 15 points on 6-of-16 shooting with three threes, Meghan Lamanna added 11 points, and Elizabeth Bennett posted 10 points. Kaeli Romanowski dished out six assists with seven steals and five rebounds.

Scranton seized control early, using a 9-0 run, including back-to-back Sloan layups, for a 23-11 first-quarter edge capped by a Raguso fast-break bucket. The Royals pulled away in the second behind Romanowski's play making and Talutto's three, extending to 51-20 at the half on a Talutto triple.

The third saw Scranton push the margin to 73-31 on a Lamanna three, though Postell answered with a jumper and layup to keep NJCU within striking distance momentarily. The Royals closed strong in the fourth, with Kraker's layup sealing the 87-46 final.
