Women's Basketball Opens NJAC Play With a 51-42 Win Over Ramapo

MAHWAH, NJ | New Jersey City University (NJCU) locked in defensively from start to finish and leaned on a dominant night on the glass to grind out a 51–42 road win at Ramapo on Tuesday, opening New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play with a statement inside the Bradley Center.

NJCU (2–2, 1–0 NJAC) won the rebounding battle 52–36, behind a career-high 19 rebounds by Autumn John (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway), and held the Roadrunners to just 10 made field goals on 20 percent shooting. Kaylah Neal (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) turned in a career-high 15 points, on 7-of-10 shooting while also adding seven boards. Meghan Gentile (Roseland, N.J./Immaculate Conception) added a team-high 17 points in the win. Ramapo (4-2, 0-1) was led offensively by Jocelyn Juancaya who finished with 12 points while Lauren Flatt grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

After one quarter of play, the Gothic Knights trailed by a single point, 13-12, after a free-throw with 2:48 remaining gave the Roadrunners the lead. The Gothic Knights' defense was the star of the second quarter as they held the Roadrunners to two points while scoring 9 of their own to take the lead into the break.
Bailey Cassell (Palmdale, Calif./Pete Knight) stuffed the stat sheet with seven points, eight rebounds, two steals, and a block, while Isabel Gidado (Fords, N.J./Colonia) and Dasani Talley Dorman (Camden, N.J./Woodbury Junior-Senior) chipped in with active defensive minutes that continually disrupted Ramapo's rhythm.

Out of the break, Ramapo came and knotted the game at 28 before NJCU regained the lead and took a six-point lead into the final stanza thanks to three straight points by Neal.

NJCU pushed the lead to double digits in the fourth behind a pair of threes from Gentile and Cassell and closed out the night by holding Ramapo without a field goal for the final three minutes.
