Track and Field Competes at FastTrack Last Chance Invitational

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The New Jersey City University (NJCU) track and field team had a solid showing at the FastTrack Last Chance Invitational, held on Friday, Feb. 28, at the Ocean Breeze Athletics Complex.

Representing the women's track and field team, sophomore Jezena Aponte (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) competed in the mile run and finished with a time of 5:25.35, placing 11th overall. In the long jump, junior Tonna Ogina (North Brunswick, N.J./Highland Park) finished with a mark of 4.90m, securing 11th place as well.

On the men's side, freshman Christan Palmer (Union, N.J./Union), had a solid performance in the 60m dash, finishing 13th with a time of 7.45 seconds. He also raced in the 200m dash, where he posted a personal-best time of 23.14 seconds, earning him 32nd place. Sophomore Anthony El Helou (Beirut, Lebanon/Kfarchima) also participated in the 200m dash, finishing with a time of 25.04 seconds, which earned him 62nd place.

Freshmen Goncalo Carvalho (Newark, N.J./East Side High School) and Jeremiah Saunders (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfied) both competed in the 800m run, where they delivered solid season-best times. Carvalho finished with a time of 2:06.27, placing 37th, while Saunders crossed the line in 2:08.01, securing 40th place.

Finally, junior Isaiah Ramirez (Edison, N.J./John P. Stevens) ran the 400m dash, finishing with a time of 50.87 seconds, which earned him 13th place.

UP NEXT:
Three athletes from the NJCU track and field team—Tonna Ogina (North Brunswick, N.J./Highland Park), Pratt Charles (Jersey City, N.J./University Charter), and Reyanna Henderson (Pemberton, N.J./Pemberton Two)—will compete at the All-Atlantic Regional Track & Field Championships at Ithaca College on March 7-8, with the first day of competition beginning at 11:00 a.m. and the second day starting at 10:00 a.m..
