MAHWAH, N.J. - The New Jersey City University (NJCU) track & field team delivered a strong performance on day two of the Ramapo Invitational on Saturday, March 29. Several Gothic Knights made notable strides, with four athletes achieving top-100 Division III finishes.
Senior
Reyanna Henderson (Pemberton, N.J./Pemberton Two) had an exceptional day, securing three top-100 finishes in Division III. Henderson's performance in the 100m was particularly remarkable. She earned a personal-best time of 12.40 seconds during the 100m prelims, which ranked her 17th in the Division III standings for the 2025 season. She went on to finish first in the finals with a gold-medal performance, setting another personal best of 12.24 seconds. This impressive time now ranks 10th nationally in Division III for 2025. In addition to her success in the 100m, Henderson also competed in the 200m, where she earned a bronze medal with a time of 24.87 seconds. This performance is ranked sixth in Division III for the 2025 season and now seventh in program history.
Junior
Tonna Ogina (North Brunswick, N.J./Highland Park) also delivered a standout performance, particularly in the high jump, where she tied for first place with a mark of 1.53m. This result places her 57th in the Division III rankings for 2025 and second in program history. Ogina's versatility was on display as she also competed in the long jump, finishing fourth out of 32 competitors with a leap of 5.19m.
The Gothic Knights also showcased depth in the hammer throw, with three athletes competing. Junior Evelyn Tahmazian led the way with a 10th-place finish, marking 33.60m. Senior
Shyanne Anson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) followed with a personal-record throw of 31.45m, earning 13th place, while junior
Lucy Pelaez (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) finished 22nd with a throw of 24.18m. Pelaez also participated in the discus, where she recorded another personal best, finishing 24th with a throw of 22.67m.
On the men's side, junior
Pratt Charles (Jersey City, N.J./University Charter) was one of the standout performers for the Gothic Knights. Charles secured a third-place finish in the long jump, marking a personal best of 6.71m. This result ranks 24th nationally in Division III for 2025. Charles also competed in the 200m, where he finished in 5th place with a time of 22.42 seconds, another personal record, which places him 55th in the Division III rankings for 2025.
Junior
Sirell Clark (Jersey City, N.J./University Academy Charter) contributed significantly to the team's success with a top-10 finish in the hammer throw, recording a throw of 43.81m, which ranks 94th in the Division III standings for 2025 and smashes his own program record of 41.94m. Clark also competed in the discus, where he finished 15th with a mark of 34.62m. Freshman Joseph Jean-Marie also represented NJCU in the discus, finishing 23rd with a throw of 31.03m.
The distance races saw strong performances from freshmen
Goncalo Carvalho (Newark, N.J./East Side High School) and
Jeremiah Saunders (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfied), as well as sophomore
Isaiah Ramirez (Edison, N.J./John P. Stevens). In the 1,500m race, Carvalho finished in 30th place with a time of 4:34.83, while Saunders came in 31st with a time of 4:24.93, setting a personal record. The 800m race also featured multiple NJCU runners, with Ramirez leading the charge. He finished 14th with a time of 2:09.36, while Carvalho placed 15th with a time of 2:10.02. Saunders completed the race in 28th place with a time of 2:16.55.
