Tonna Ogina Qualifies for AARTFC Championships as Track & Field Shines at TCNJ Multi Invite

EWING, N.J. – The New Jersey City University (NJCU) track and field team delivered a strong performance on the final day of the TCNJ Multi Invite, hosted by The College of New Jersey on Saturday, April 12. The Gothic Knights posted a number of standout results, highlighted by Tonna Ogina's (North Brunswick, N.J./Highland Park) qualification for the 2025 AARTFC Outdoor Championships in the long jump.

Ogina led the way for NJCU with a second-place finish in the long jump, leaping 5.43 meters—a mark that surpasses the All-Atlantic Region Championships qualifying standard of 5.35 meters. Her performance currently ranks 33rd nationally in NCAA Division III this season and fourth in program history. 

On the track, Raven Orange (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) made an impressive collegiate outdoor debut in the women's 100-meter dash, winning her preliminary heat in 13.26 seconds to qualify for the finals. She returned with an improved time of 13.14 seconds, earning seventh place overall. Orange also ran the anchor leg of the women's 4x100-meter relay, joining Saniya Chappius (Millville, N.J./Millville Senior), Ogina, and Reyanna Henderson (Pemberton, N.J./Pemberton Two) to post a third-place finish with a time of 50.90.

Saniya Chappius (Millville, N.J./Millville Senior) also made her debut in the 200-meter dash, finishing 17th out of 30 competitors with a time of 28.71 seconds.

In field events, Lucy Pelaez (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) represented NJCU in the shot put and discus, finishing with marks of 7.04 meters and 21.90 meters, respectively.

On the men's side, Pratt Charles (Jersey City, N.J./University Charter) had a standout performance in the 400-meter dash, finishing third overall and in his heat with a time of 50.89 seconds. He also earned a seventh-place finish in the 200-meter dash, clocking 22.98 seconds.

Goncalo Carvalho (Newark, N.J./East Side High School) ran a time of 2:10.25 in the 800 meters, finishing 19th overall. In the field events, Joseph Jean-Marie placed 25th in the shot put (10.03m) and made his debut in the discus, securing 15th place with a throw of 34.26 meters.

Sprinter Christan Palmer (Union, N.J./Union) finished 25th in the 100-meter prelims (11.97) and placed 31st in the 200 meters (24.32). Isaiah Ramirez (Edison, N.J./John P. Stevens) notched a personal-best time of 23.80 seconds in the 200 meters, earning 22nd place.

Jeremiah Saunders (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfied) rounded out NJCU's efforts with a time of 4:39.61 in the 1,500-meter run, finishing 48th in a field of 61 athletes.
