Track & Field Earns Eight Top-Five Finishes at Johns Hopkins Invitational

BALTIMORE, MD. — The New Jersey City University (NJCU) track & field team competed at the two-day Johns Hopkins Invitational from April 18–19. The Gothic Knights turned in an impressive overall performance, securing a total of eight top-five finishes and multiple personal records, regional qualifying marks, and program top-10 performances.

Tonna Ogina (North Brunswick, N.J./Highland Park) delivered the strongest individual performances for the women's team. She secured NJCU's highest placement of the meet with a second-place finish in the triple jump, recording a mark of 10.91 meters, which ranks her 89th in NCAA Division III this season. She also placed third in the high jump, clearing 1.60 meters, a season-best mark that ranks 45th nationally and qualifies her for the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Championships (AARTFC). Her jump is also the second-best high jump performance in program history, continuing her standout 2025 outdoor campaign.

In the sprints, Reyanna Henderson (Pemberton, N.J./Pemberton Two) continued to impress with a pair of top-five finishes. She placed fourth in the 200-meter dash, clocking a new personal record of 24.86 seconds, which ranks 36th nationally in Division III and stands as the eighth-fastest time in NJCU program history. She also competed in the 400-meter dash, where she finished fourth again, running a time of 57.60 seconds. This mark ranks her 52nd in Division III and is the fourth-fastest 400m time in NJCU history, while also qualifying her for the AARTFC Championships.

Joining Henderson in the 200-meter dash was Saniya Chappius (Millville, N.J./Millville Senior), who set a new personal best of 28.09 seconds, placing 43rd overall. In the 100-meter dash, Raven Orange (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) ran a personal-best 12.91 seconds to place 18th in a competitive field.

In mid-distance, Jezena Aponte (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) posted a solid showing in the 1,500-meter run. She finished 43rd overall with a time of 5:02.70, which now stands as the fifth-fastest mark in school history.

The throws group was active across four events. Lucy Pelaez (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) had a busy weekend, beginning with a 13th-place finish in the discus (21.72m), followed by a 19th-place showing in the shot put (6.94m). She also competed in the hammer throw, recording a personal-best mark of 25.74 meters for 17th place. Shyanne Anson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) also competed in the hammer, achieving a new personal record of 32.25 meters, finishing 14th overall. Anson rounded out her weekend with an 11th-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 24.08 meters.

The women's 4x100-meter relay team rounded out the meet with a strong fifth-place finish out of 10 teams, crossing the line in 49.35 seconds. This time ranks 81st in NCAA Division III this season and qualifies Orange, Ogina, Chappius, and Henderson for the AARTFC Championships.

On the men's side, Isaiah Ramirez (Edison, N.J./John P. Stevens) delivered the top individual finish with a third-place showing in the 400-meter dash, running a personal-best 50.17 seconds. His teammate, Pratt Charles (Jersey City, N.J./University Charter), also had an outstanding weekend, placing fifth in the 200-meter dash with a personal-best time of 22.26 seconds, and matching that with another fifth-place finish in the long jump, where he recorded a mark of 6.39 meters.

Charles returned to the track for the 400 meters, finishing 14th with a time of 51.67 seconds. In the 800-meter run, Goncalo Carvalho (Newark, N.J./East Side High School) placed 36th with a personal-best time of 2:05.23, while teammate Jeremiah Saunders (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfied) finished 42nd in 2:10.38, posting his best time of the season.

NJCU also fielded teams in both men's relay events. The 4x100-meter relay team finished sixth in a time of 44.03 seconds, while the 4x400-meter relay squad placed seventh, clocking in at 3:31.74.
