EWING, N.J. – The New Jersey City University (NJCU) track and field teams opened competition at the 2025 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Outdoor Championships on Saturday, May 3, hosted by The College of New Jersey (TCNJ). After the first day of events, the Gothic Knights men's team stands in sixth place with five points, while the women's team sits in fifth place with six points. Saturday's schedule featured the finals of all field events, while track events consisted of preliminary heats.
Leading the way for NJCU in the field events was
Tonna Ogina (North Brunswick, N.J./Highland Park), who delivered the team's top final finish of the day with a strong third-place showing in the women's long jump, recording a distance of 5.41 meters. In the throwing events,
Shyanne Anson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) set a personal best in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 33.31 meters, earning her 12th place. She was followed by
Evie Tahmazian (Racine, Wis./Monmouth Regional), who threw 31.79 meters to take 15th, and Lucy Pelaeaz, who placed 20th with a mark of 25.51 meters. Both Anson and Tahmazian also competed in the javelin, with Anson throwing 19.17 meters for 15th place and Tahmazian achieving a personal record of 14.25 meters to place 16th.
On the men's side,
Sirell Clark (Jersey City, N.J./University Academy Charter) had a standout performance in the hammer throw, setting a personal record with a 44.35-meter toss, which earned him seventh place overall. His 44.35m mark makes program history, as he now holds the top-seven marks in NJCU outdoor track and field history. In the men's long jump,
Pratt Charles (Jersey City, N.J./University Charter) jumped 6.66 meters to take sixth place, while teammate
Kenny Balisage (Roselle, N.J./Roselle Park) achieved a personal best of 5.16 meters, finishing in 20th.
In the track events,
Reyanna Henderson (Pemberton, N.J./Pemberton Two) had a phenomenal day, qualifying for the finals in all three of her events and setting a personal best in the process. She placed third overall in the 400-meter dash prelims with a personal-best time of 57.51 seconds, securing a spot in Sunday's final. Henderson also advanced in the 100-meter dash, finishing second overall with a time of 12.47 seconds, which also earned her a heat win. She capped off her day by finishing first in the 200-meter prelims with a time of 24.97 seconds, positioning herself as a top contender heading into the finals.
Also competing in the sprints was
Raven Orange (Carteret, N.J./Carteret), who narrowly missed qualifying for the 100-meter finals despite running a personal best time of 12.72 seconds, placing 11th overall. Orange also recorded a personal best of 26.46 seconds in the 200 meters, finishing 14th.
On the men's sprint side,
Pratt Charles (Jersey City, N.J./University Charter) returned to the track for the 200 meters and posted a time of 22.42 seconds, placing 10th overall in the preliminaries. In the men's 100 meters,
Christan Palmer (Union, N.J./Union) and
Kameron McGainey (Union, N.J./Union) both ran personal bests, finishing in 27th and 31st place with times of 11.60 seconds and 11.78 seconds, respectively.

The NJCU Gothic Knights return to action on Sunday, May 4, for Day Two of the NJAC Outdoor Championships. Events begin at 10:00 a.m. as finals in the running events will determine the final team standings and potential All-Conference honors.
