Jean-Louis & Ramirez Score as NJCU Downs SUNY-Delhi in Season Opener

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY | Kyanah-Belle Jean-Louis (Montreal, Canada/Washington Township (N.J.)) and Isabella Ramirez (Elmwood Park, N.J./Elmwood Park Memorial) scored as the New Jersey City University (NJCU) women's soccer team started the 2025 season off with a 2-0 win over SUNY-Delhi. The win marks the second consecutive season the Gothic Knights have won their season opener without allowing a goal against.

NJCU (1-0) was on the offensive all game and as a result tallied a game-high 25 shots while holding SUNY Delhi (0-1) to one shot all game. Ramirez, Nyrohah Alvarenga (North Bergen, N.J./High Tech), Aubrey Gulbin (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood), and Gabriella Cardona (Elizabeth, N.J./Alexander Hamilton) led the charge with three shots each for the Gothic Knights.

The Gothic Knights put the pressure on SUNY-Delhi's defense early as they sent three shots towards goal in the opening 10 minutes. Jean-Louis nearly broke through in the 24th minute but saw her shot sail wide. She wouldn't have to wait much longer as she cracked the code of SUNY-Delhi's defense and put her shot into the back of the net to give NJCU a 1-0 lead. The offensive onslaught continued for the remainder of the half as the Gothic Knights were not content with their 1-0 lead.

The constant barrage of attacks paid dividends 10 minutes into the second stanza when Ramirez took a pass from Alvarenga to slot one into the back of the net. Four quick shots followed the goal by the Gothic Knights, however, none found the mark as SUNY-Delhi was spared from falling behind further. SUNY-Delhi remained on its heels for the remainder of the game but repelled the remaining attacks by the Gothic Knights.
