Men's Soccer Draws Lehman, 1-1

BRONX, NY | The New Jersey City University (NJCU) men's soccer team drew Lehman College, 1-1, on Thursday evening.

NJCU (2-4-2) tallied 10 shots in the game while Lehman (3-0-2) collected 15. Pascual Verdu made three saves in the draw. Thursday's draw is the first time these two teams have tied, as the all-time record moves to 5-0-1.

Camilo Pascual Verdu was called upon early in tonight's non-conference bout against the Lightning as they forced a save 34 seconds into the match. Kenneth Valladares (Union City, N.J./Union City) would tally NJCU's first shot of the game eight minutes later, however, it was Lehman who struck first. In the 12th minute, the Lightning were awarded a penalty kick that was converted by Cyrus Blake. Lehman nearly doubled its tally three minutes later, but Pascual Verdu was there to make the save yet again. As the teams settled into the half, shots began to fly, but none were able to find the back of the net for the rest of the half.

NJCU struck earlier in the second stanza off of the foot of Augusto Vieira (Kearny, N.J./Kearny).  Vieira took a pass from Dom Celi Jr. (Newton, N.J./Newton) and powered the shot high in the center of the net to knot the game at one. Kevin Alves (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) had a chance to put the Gothic Knights ahead in the 63rd but was stonewalled by Andres Barajas. For the rest of the half, the squads traded shots to no avail as the game would end in a 1-1 stalemate.
