NEW YORK, NY | The New Jersey City University (NJCU) men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Hunter College for the first time in program history on Monday afternoon as part of non-conference play.

NJCU (0-3-1) took 17 shots as a team and put five on frame, while Hunter (1-2-1) tallied a robust 24 shots with 11 on target. Offensively, Erick Larrahondo (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury) and Augusto Vieira (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) had three shots each.

Camilo Pascual Verdu was called into action in the opening six minutes, having to make a save to keep the Hawks off of the scoreboard. NJCU responded with three quick shots, with one forcing Matthew Fridburg to make a save. Both offenses continued to send shots towards goal, however, both net minders were up to the task as the squads went into the break tied at zero.

After the break, both sides turned the heat up, offensively, with 15 shots from Hunter and 10 shots from NJCU. Despite the flurry of shots from both sides, only one team was able to break through. That breakthrough came in the 83rd minute when Allan Conway broke free and found the back of the net. Trailing by one, the Gothic Knights were only able to tally two shots in the final seven minutes as they dropped the non-conference bout.

The Gothic Knights return to action on Wednesday, September 10, when they travel to Patchogue, NY, to take on St. Joseph's University-Long Island at 6:00 pm.
