Ogina & Charles Reach the Podium at NJAC Championships

PHILADELPHIA, PA | New Jersey City University's (NJCU) track and field teams competed at the NJAC Championships on Friday at the Ott Indoor Track at the University of Pennsylvania. The women's team finished in sixth place with 33 points, while the men's squad placed eighth with 12 points.

Tonna Ogina (North Brunswick, N.J./Highland Park) delivered a dominant performance in the field events, sweeping both the triple jump and high jump to lead the Gothic Knights. Ogina soared to first place in the triple jump with a mark of 11.18 meters, a performance that ranks 49th nationally in Division III this season. She followed that up by claiming the high jump title with a clearance of 1.63 meters, good for 35th in the nation among Division III competitors and tied for fifth all-time at NJCU.

Lucy Pelaez (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) contributed valuable points in the weight throw, finishing 14th with a toss of 9.79 meters to round out NJCU's scoring on the women's side. Raven Orange (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) represented NJCU in the 200 meters, finishing seventh with a time of 25.76 seconds.

The Gothic Knights received strong performances across multiple events on the men's side, with Pratt Charles (Jersey City, N.J./University Charter) leading the way in the sprints. Charles finished third in the 400 meters with a time of 48.77 seconds, good for fifth all-time at NJCU, and added a 22nd-place finish in the 200 meters, clocking 23.89 seconds.

In the field events, David Dewberry (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) placed 10th in the triple jump with a leap of 13.15 meters, good for eighth all-time at NJCU, while Johnair Gonzalez (Jersey City, N.J./William L. Dickinson) finished 17th in the high jump, clearing 1.67 meters.

The middle-distance squad contributed key points as Danny Wilson (Jersey City, N.J./Ferris) placed 16th in the mile with a time of 5:40.18, and Goncalo Carvalho (Newark, N.J./East Side) finished 13th in the 800 meters, running 2:03.20. Isaiah Ramirez (Edison, N.J./John P. Stevens) added a 14th-place finish in the 400 meters, posting a time of 50.63. Dequan Brown placed 24th in the event with a time of 24.23.

Gerard Victor (Irvington, N.J./Donald M. Payne Tech) competed in the 400 meters, finishing 23rd with a time of 54.49 seconds. The Gothic Knights closed out the meet with a strong performance in the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Gerard Victor (Irvington, N.J./Donald M. Payne Tech), Pratt Charles (Jersey City, N.J./University Charter), Goncalo Carvalho (Newark, N.J./East Side), and Isaiah Ramirez (Edison, N.J./John P. Stevens) finished fifth with a time of 3:25.39.
