HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. — Senior
Andre Dean (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) tossed a complete game shutout as the New Jersey City University baseball team defeated previously unbeaten Plattsburgh State, 1–0, on Friday, March 13 at the Our Diamond of Dreams field at Centenary University.
The Gothic Knights (2-2-1) were outhit 6–5 by the Cardinals (5-1), but made the most of their opportunities in the sixth inning. Both teams played clean defense with no errors.
NJCU broke through in the bottom of the sixth. Freshman
Dovid Solomon (Alon Shvut, Israel/Yeshiva Torah and Artzeinu) singled up the middle, then used his speed to move into scoring position, stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch. Graduate student
Nick Vaughn (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township) followed with a single through the left side, bringing Solomon home for the game's lone run and a 1–0 lead.
Solomon finished 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Vaughn went 2-for-4 with the game-winning RBI. Senior
Brandon Piacenza (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) added a hit, going 1-for-3.
The Gothic Knights were aggressive on the basepaths, recording six stolen bases. Solomon and senior
Mike Novak (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) led the way with two, while Piacenza and Vaughn each added one.
Plattsburgh State collected six hits from five different players, led by Bostyn Duquette, who went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate.
Dean (1-1) dominated on the mound for NJCU, pitching all nine innings while allowing six hits and no runs. The senior struck out a season-high eight batters.
Jack Castillo (2-1) took the loss for the Cardinals, pitching six innings and allowing four hits and one run while striking out six.

The Gothic Knights return to action Saturday, March 14, traveling to Purchase, New York, for a doubleheader against Manhattanville University scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
