Rookie midfielder/forward #JONNATHAN VELOZ# (Newark, NJ/East Side) is the NJCU men’s athlete of the week for the first time in his career after scoring twice, including the game-winner, in NJCU’s only game of the week, a 4-3 overtime victory over St. Joseph’s College (LI) on September 21. He had six shots in the game, with three on goal.
 
He scored the first goal of the game at the 31:29 mark of the first half as he received a long cross and finished a side-volley one-timer into the left of the net. After a foul in the box in overtime, he won the game on a penalty kick at 6:17 of the extra period for his third goal of the season, and his first career multiple-goal effort.
 
On the season, Veloz has started five of NJCU’s seven games and is second on the club with nine points, tallying three goals and three assists on 12 shots (seven on goal). He has a .583 shots on goal percentage, one game-winning goal, one first goal and one overtime tally. Veloz has played 393 minutes, eighth most on the club. He is second on the team in assists, third in goals and fourth in shots.
 
Among the New Jersey Athletic Conference leaders, Veloz is tied for third in assists, fourth in assists per game (0,43), tied for seventh in game-winning goals, 11th in points per game, 12th in points, 14th in goals, 16th in goals per game (0.43), and 30th in shots per game (1.71).
