, NJ…Kean University, the defending New Jersey Athletic Conference champions, tallied 16 hits and scored seven times in the opening inning en route to a 13-0 win over New Jersey City University in a NJAC game on April 17 at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex.
 
Kean, which is ranked #5 nationally in the American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball Poll and #12 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association/D3Baseball.com Division III poll, improved to 24-7 overall and 8-3 in the NJAC. The Knights fell to 12-18-1 and 2-8 NJAC.
 
While the Cougars offensive ability was on display, Kean also received a complete-game, three-hit shutout effort from junior pitcher Nick Cesare (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield). He struck out five batters and walked none, improving to 2-2.
 
With NJCU playing its second of six games in four days, the Knights used nine different pitchers—with each tossing one inning. Sophomore pitcher JEFF KARCZEWSKI (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton West) took the loss for the Gothic Knights, falling to 2-4 on the season. 
 
Kean scored all seven runs in the first inning after two outs had been recorded. The Cougars added four runs in the third and two in the sixth.
 
Freshman leftfielder D.J. Breckenridge (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) was 3-for-6 with two RBIs while freshman first baseman Lee Cavico (North Brunswick, NJ/Bishop Ahr) went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Junior second baseman Mike Moceri (Yardville, NJ/Hamilton East) was 2-for-5 with two doubles, including his 15th of the season, two RBIs and one run. Junior third baseman/shortstop Dave Zavistoski (Edison, NJ/Edison) also had two doubles, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs. Senior catcher Mike Manganiello (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) was 2-for-3 with two runs.
 
For NJCU, senior centerfielder MARK HOYER (Irvine, CA/Woodbridge-CA), freshman second baseman ROB GONZALEZ (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial), and senior leftfielder JORGE PARDO (West New York, NJ/Memorial) had NJCU's lone three hits—all singles.
