NJAC WEEKLY AWARDS SUMMARY
PITMAN, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) |
New Jersey City University freshman setter
Rachel McIntyre (Drexel Hill, PA/Upper Darby) has been named the
New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for week six of the 2014 season, the conference office announced on October 7. She is the first Gothic Knight to take home the award in eight seasons.
McIntyre, a 5-foot-7 double major in Criminal Justice and Creative Writing, is the first NJCU player named NJAC Rookie of the Week since
Alex Johanesen (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan), also a setter, took home the honor in weeks one and three of the 2007 campaign.
In four matches last week,
McIntyre tallied 114 assists and 35 digs, averaging 7.12 assists and 2.19 digs per set while notching a pair of double-doubles—the second and third of her young career.
In a 3-2 loss to Gwynedd Mercy University in a neutral court match on October 4, she delivered career-highs with 49 assists and 17 digs. It was the first time she exceeded 36 assists in a match.
Later that day in a 3-2 win over host Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pa. in the second half of the non-conference tri-match, she distributed 35 assists and 10 digs.
Earlier in the week she had 19 and 11 assists, respectively, in NJAC losses at Rutgers University-Newark and Rowan University. She had an ace in each contest and six digs at RUN.
An honors student at NJCU,
McIntyre, like
Johanesen, attends the University on a full Presidential academic scholarship.
For the season through 17 matches she has started in all 59 sets and notched 384 assists, 89 digs and 23 service aces. She is averaging 6.51 assists, 1.51 digs and 0.39 aces per set.
