#GothicRewind—NJCU Falls to Rutgers-Newark:The NJCU women's volleyball team failed to end its New Jersey Athletic Conference losing streak, primarily because the Gothic Knights were limited to negative attack percentages in all three sets on September 29 as NJCU fell to visiting Rutgers-Newark 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-11). NJCU had an attack line of 17-24-90 in the match and hit -.078 for the contest. The Knights never led and could only force two ties early in the first set.
Haxhaj Seeking 500:Â
Junior
Shege Haxhaj enters today's action with 482 career kills in 82 matches with 89 total blocks. With 18 more kills she'll be the 15th to get halfway to a thousand. She'll soon become the 11th Gothic Knight with 100 career blocks. She did not have a kill or block in the loss to Rutgers-Newark and her attack percentage on the season dropped from .278 to .246.
McIntyre Close to a Grand:Sophomore setter
Rachel McIntyre, the sports editor of NJCU's school newspaper 'The Gothic Times', may soon have a personal milestone to report on. With 988 assists in 155 sets, she needs 12 more to become just the fifth Gothic Knight to reach that mark.
Valerie is Digging It:Senior libero
Valerie Ballestas tallied 14 digs in the loss to Rutgers-Newark.
Ballestas has double figures in digs six times in her career (four times in 2015).
Let's Ace This Place:Entering the week, NJCU ranks 19th in Division III in aces. As a team, NJCU ranks No. 1 in the NJAC in service aces at 3.16 per set (120 total). Ramapo is second at 2.87 per set (129).
