Katherin Merino collected her first collegiate brace with goals in the 32nd and 59th minutes and freshman midfielder
Lexi Capote netted her first two NCAA goals in the 78th and 86th frames to seal it as NJCU overwhelmed CCNY, 4-0, in non-conference women's soccer on September 12.
Merino scored her second and third goals of the season and had 11 shots in the game with six on goal.
Kaydee Murphy had an assist as did
Daniela Betancourt for her first collegiate point.
Four Score Trends:NJCU has been involved in four games that have resulted in a 4-0 final. NJCU has won once and lost three times by that outcome.
Shutout Streak:NJCU senior goalkeeper
Cassie Lubonski has recorded back-to-back shutouts and enters the game with a scoreless minutes streak of 237:43.
The 2014-15 First-Team Academic All-NJAC selection made five saves in the 0-0 draw with Cedar Crest before making one point-blank save in the win over CCNY.
The King's Notes:The Lions, members of the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) dropped their first game of the season on September 5, 6-0, to SUNY-ESF (Environmental Science and Forestry). TKC has not played since.
Welcome Back Julia:TKC's acting head coach today is former NJCU all-time great
Julia Caseres, '12. The former Third Team Academic All-American was a four-time All-NJAC selection in her career—including her final three season playing for the Gothic Knights (2009-11). As a junior in 2010, she was a Second-Team All-NJAC and Third-Team D3soccer.com All-America recipient. The all-time leading scorer in NJAC and New Jersey collegiate soccer history among Division I, II or III players—men or women—
Caseres finished her career with 100 goals and 42 assists for 242 points in 86 career games between Rutgers-Newark (2008) and NJCU (2009-11). In three years at NJCU, she tallied 78 goals and 34 assists for 190 points. She is NJCU's all-time leader in eight categories—points per game (2.88), goals per game (1.18), game-winners, assists, assists per game (0.52), shots per game (5.61), penalty kicks made (4), and penalty kicks attempted (7).
