JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The College Sports Communicators (CSC) — formerly known as CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) — released its annual Academic All-District Women's Volleyball selections today, Tuesday, Nov. 22. New Jersey University saw three student-athletes earn recognition. This is the first time NJCU women's volleyball has landed someone on the Academic All-District squad
since 2017-18.
Leading the way for the Gothic Knights is senior right-side hitter
Paola Toledo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Colegio Catolico San Rafael). The two-time All-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) performer, including Second Team honors this past season, led NJCU offensively with 290 kills (3.12/set) and 333.0 points (3.58/set), was second on the squad in hitting percentage (.240) and total blocks with 29.0 (0.31/set) and fourth in digs with 173 (1.86/set). Sydney Lore (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) played in 28 of 29 matches, including 27 starts, leading Jersey City in assists with 747 (7.62/set) and service aces with 71 (0.72/set) and was third in digs with 181 (1.85/set). Finally, sophomore middle blocker
Dayshia Espinosa (El Paso, Texas/Pebble Hills) saw action in 23 matches, including 20 starts, finishing with 25.0 total blocks (0.35/set) to tie for third and added 62 kills, 11 aces and 31 digs.
The qualifications for the distinction of Academic All-District are as follows — student-athletes must have AT LEAST a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, be a starter or key reserve and have participated in AT LEAST 50 percent of their team's contests for the current season. Having been named as Academic All-District honorees, all three Gothic Knights are now officially nominated for Academic All-America. Voting among the nation's Division III Athletic Communications professionals is taking place from Nov. 22-Dec. 6 and the Academic All-America Teams will be announced in mid-December.
