ERIE, Pa. — The #15-ranked New Jersey City University women's wrestling squad competed at the Northeast Regional Duals on Sunday, Dec. 4, on the campus of #11-ranked Gannon University. The Gothic Knights took part in three matches throughout the day, going 1-2, and finished in sixth place overall out of the nine teams at the event. Junior co-captains Sandy Guerrero (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) and Naomi Henry (Brooklyn, N.Y./Wingate) each went 3-0, while sophomore Izabella Frezzo (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton Regional) went 2-0.

NJCU (1-3) first took on Ursinus College (2-2) in round one of Pool B competition and the Gothic Knights topped the Bears, 23-15. Freshman Dyanne Pelaez (Fords, N.J./Woodbridge) collected a win by forfeit at 101 pounds before the #7-ranked Frezzo earned an 11-2 decision win at 116 pounds. #8-ranked Henry then picked up a pin at 130, followed in kind by sophomore Kayla Zeppetelli (Little Ferry, N.J./Ridgefield Park) at 136 pounds with a pin of her own. #8-ranked Guerrero closed out with a pin at 191 pounds to seal the eight-point victory.

Advancing to the Pool B finals against the hosting Golden Knights (3-1), Jersey City put up a solid fight against Gannon before falling 35-13. Junior Bella Serrano (Belmar, N.J./Manasquan) got NJCU on the board with a win by forfeit at 116 pounds before Henry, a couple of matches later, secured a competitive win ia a 6-3 decision at 130 pounds. However, the final four matches were forfeits (three for Gannon and one for Guerrero and NJCU), leading to the Golden Knights' victory.

Advancing on to the fourth-place bracket, NJCU took on Elmira College (2-4). This was another close one, however the Soaring Eagles just edged out the Gothic Knights, 25-20. After falling at 101 and 109, Frezzo secured the pin at 116 pounds before Serrano and Henry collected wins by forfeit at 123 and 130 pounds, respectively. Guerrero would make it a five-point loss to Elmira as she collected a pin at 191 pounds to finish her day at 3-0 with a couple of falls.
