Women's Wrestling Announces Historic 2022-23 Schedule, Including First-Ever Home Tri

Nationally-Ranked Gothic Knights Set for Highly-Competitive Slate

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — After serving as the program's inaugural top assistant coach for its first two seasons from 2020-22, first-year head coach Barry Hart has officially released the 2022-23 New Jersey City University women's wrestling team's schedule. The 13-date competition schedule features five home matches at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC), including the program's first-ever tri.

The Green and Gold kicks off the season with just the second home match in program history, a clash with Columbia University's club women's wrestling team on Oct. 30. The following weekend, the Gothic Knights head out to East Stroudsburg, Pa., on Nov. 6, for the East Stroudsburg University Open — NJCU placed fifth at last year's event, including rising junior co-captain's Naomi Henry (Brooklyn, N.Y./Wingate) 130-pound individual title. One week later, the squad heads out to Adrian, Mich., for the Adrian College Open on Nov. 13.

Jersey City's first tri of the season comes up five days later as the team heads out to Doylestown, Pa., on Nov. 18. NJCU first faces off with host Delaware Valley University and then takes on Lock Haven University. On Dec. 4, the Green and Gold head out to Erie, Pa., for the Northeast Regional Duals, hosted by Gannon University. The Gothic Knights then head out to Naperville, Ill., on Dec. 11, for the North Central College Open. Finally, NJCU closes out the year with the program's first-ever tri on Dec. 17 as Delaware Valley and Sacred Heart University come to the JMAC.

2023 starts off with another home match in Jersey City as the rivalry renews when East Stroudsburg returns to the JMAC on Jan. 15. The teams split last year's two dual matches, with both squads winning on the road. NJCU heads south the next weekend for the Robert Horton Open, hosted by Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga. Jersey City closes out the regular season with one final dual, once again at the JMAC on Feb. 5 against Elmira College.

Postseason begins on Gannon's campus on Feb. 18 for the National College Women's Wrestling Championships Northeast Regionals. NJCU placed eighth last season, with three advancing to Nationals. Then, should the squad or individuals qualify, the Gothic Knights will head out to the Alliant Energy Powerhouse Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on March 3-4 for NCWWC Nationals — rising junior co-captain Sandy Guerrero (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) cemented herself as a two-time All-American at 191 pounds last season, while Henry and rising sophomore Izabella Frezzo (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton Regional) (109) competed as well.

Fans can attend all NJCU women's wrestling home matches at the JMAC. All Gothic Knights home games will also be streamed live on GothicVision, which can be found at www.NJCUGothicKnights.com/GothicVision or via the GothicVision app, available in both the iOS app store and on Android, as well as Roku.
