Women's Tennis Falls Just Short at TCNJ

EWING, N.J.  — The New Jersey City University women's tennis team went head-to-head with The College of Nee Jersey on Friday, April 14, in New Jersey Athletic conference (NJAC). The Gothic Knights took second doubles and fourth singles in the 7-2 loss. It was the first time since 2013 that the Lions surrendered a point at doubles in NJAC play.

As mentioned,  NJCU (8-5, 5-1 NJAC) picked up a doubles win over TCNJ (10-4, 3-0 NJAC) as the second pair of sophomore Vanshita Malhotra (Barwala, India/DAV Model School) and freshman Sophia Jurina (Munich, Germany/Carl-Spitzweg-Gymnasium) fought hard for the tiebreaker victory, 8-7(4).

Jurina overall went 2-0 on the afternoon, also winning, 6-4, 6-0, at fourth singles. Sophomore Sara Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo Falcone Borsellino) had a battle at fifth singles, but fell in the three-set, 10-point tiebreak (6-4, 1-6, 10-15). Her sister, senior Giada Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo dello Sport Marco Pantani), also had a strong performance at first singles, falling 6-4, 6-3.
