For Starters
NJCU and Ramapo enter with multiple-game winning streaks and as the only teams still unbeaten in the New Jersey Athletic Conference standings. The winner will claim sole possession of first place in the NJAC. NJCU has won its last five games, including two come-from-behind NJAC road victories. RCNJ has won its last four. NJCU is enjoying its longest winning streak since opening the 2013-14 season at 5-0.

#GothicRewind—NJCU Rallies at Rowan
On December 5, NJCU junior shooting guard Jalen Harris (Brandywine, MD/Gwynn Park (Md.)) netted two of his career-high 27 points from the line with 1.3 seconds remaining to break the 10th tie of the game and the Gothic Knights overcame a 13-point second half deficit on the road for its fifth consecutive victory as NJCU edged Rowan University, 87-85.

Harris exceeded 20 points for the third time in his first seven games as a Gothic Knight and scored in double figures for the sixth outing and senior power forward Chinwe Wosu (Jersey City, NJ/University Academy Charter) produced a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds—his third double-double and a career-scoring high—to power the Knights on the road.

Harris was 8-of-13 from the field and an electric 5-of-8 from three-point distance—while burying all six foul shots he attempted, including the two game-winners. He dished four assists in 37 minutes. He scored 16 in the second half (4-6 FG, 2-3 3FG, 6-6 FT).

Wosu, the NJAC's field goal percentage leader, shot 7-of-11 from the field and 8-of-10 from the line and reached the 20-point plateau for the second time and double figures for the sixth while grabbing seven of his 12 caroms on the defensive side. He added three assists in 34 minutes. He had 13 points in the second half.

Freshman power forward Yuri Brutus (Roselle Park, NJ/Roselle Park) chalked up his second career-high performance of the week, scoring 16 (6-9 FG), including 14 (5-7 FG) in the second half.  Junior point guard Ata Robinson (Newark, NJ/East Side) distributed seven assists with three steals

#GothicSweep—NJCU Sweeps NJAC Player and Rookie of the Week Awards
On December 7, Jalen Harris was named the NJAC Player of the Week and Yuri Brutus claimed NJAC Rookie of the Week accolades. NJCU becomes the first conference team to sweep both weekly awards in the same awards period since Montclair State in week two of the 2012-13 season. The Gothic Knights accomplished the feat for the first time since week seven of the 2006-07 season when Dana John was the NJAC Player of the Week and Luis Dominguez was Rookie of the Week. NJCU also had a conference sweep in week 15 of the 2003-04 campaign (Samar Battle and Abraham Williams).

Harris is NJAC Player of the Week
In a 3-0 week for the Gothic Knights, Harris was a key to NJCU's success as he exceeded 20 points in two of three contests. He averaged 22.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 48.8 percent from the field (.488), 47.6 percent from three-point range (10-21) and a lights out 85.7 percent from the line (18-21). He also was tabbed to the Met Basketball Writers Division II/III Honor Roll. Harris leads the NJAC in minutes per game and ranks fourth in three-pointers per game (2.3), fifth in scoring, seventh in three-point percentage, and is eighth in free throw percentage. He is 19th nationally in minutes per game.

Brutus is NJAC Rookie of the Week
Yuri Brutus takes home NJAC Rookie of the Week honors after being a dynamic presence off the bench. He twice established new career scoring highs of 15 and 16 points, respectively, including one double-double. In the 3-0 week he averaged 12.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals while shooting an astounding 63.6 percent from the field (14-22) and 9-of-15 at the line (.600).

NJCU as a Team
NJCU is forcing turnovers at an incredible pace. The Knights currently rank fourth in Division III in forced turnovers at 23.14 per contest and 16th in turnover margin (6.4).  NJCU's opponents have committed 20 or more turnovers in every game this season. NJCU has not won an opening tip yet this year.  NJCU is 5-0 when it has more made free throws than the opposition.

Climbing the List
Senior small forward Khalid Muhammad (Orange, NJ/Orange) has been battling injuries early this year but he is still climbing the all-time scoring list for NJCU. At Rowan, he returned after missing the last two games with an injury. The 1,000-point scorer has 1,063 career points and is 24th in school history. Next on the list: George Thomas in 23rd with 1,069 points (1999-03) and Dwayne West (1982-86) in 22nd with 1,075 points. Both players are NJCU Hall of Famers; West is the older brother of NBA star David West. In his career, Muhammad has scored in double figures 60 times and produced 20 or more points in nine contests.

Wosu the Warrior
In 23 games during 2013-14 season, Chinwe Wosu had 42 points, 48 rebounds, 10 steals, 9 assists and 7 blocks. But this year, has become a warrior on the court after missing last season. He is averaging 15.7 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.0 blocks, has scored 20 or more points twice and in double figures in six of seven games. His .647 field goal percentage ranks him 22nd nationally. He is 21st nationally in offensive rebounds per game and among the national leader in five categories.

The Roadrunner Report
  • Ramapo is looking to improve to 4-0 in the league. It was the beneficiary of a forfeit win over William Paterson on November 24—the first of four straight wins. Included in its wins are a 28-point decision over Kean last Wednesday in league play and a four-point outcome against Montclair State.
  • Senior forward Frank Nock is nearing the 1,000-point plateau and when he does so will become the 19th member of the list since RCNJ launched its program in 1971-72. He is currently sitting at 975 points. Nock was Second-Team All-NJAC as a junior and Honorable Mention as a sophomore.
  • Ramapo leads the NJAC in scoring offense at 83.1 points per game. The Roadrunners are shooting a league-high .475 from the field as a team and have a wide margin in three-point percentage at .402 (next closest, .368). Ramapo is ninth in turnover margin (-1.57; 18.4 turnovers per game committed, 16.9 forced).
