For Starters After suffering its first NJAC loss of the season on Saturday in a heartbreaking, last-minute 76-74 decision against TCNJ, the first place Gothic Knights take the court looking to up its league mark to 7-1. Rutgers-Camden, in last place in the league, looks to snap a four-game skid.
#GothicRewind—NJCU Suffers Its First Conference Loss to TCNJIn its last action on Saturday night, NJCU led by as many as 15 points in the second half before The College of New Jersey rallied, reeling off a 17-2 run over the next 7:36 that created a dramatic final six minutes that saw four ties and a frenzied pace. With NJCU leading by one with under a minute remaining, TCNJ got the go-ahead basket with 53 seconds left and a pair of defensive stops, including a three-point try at the buzzer. The loss spoiled one of the finest free-throw shooting performances in program history. NJCU shot 22-of-25 from the line and at 88.0 percent, it is a school record for a game with at least 25 free throws attempted.
Still Smokin'James Frazier has been named the NJAC Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week to open his collegiate career after averaging 19.0 points per game last week, including a career-best 24 in a road win at Stockton on January 6. He is the first Gothic Knight to repeat as NJAC Rookie of the Week in back-to-back weeks since teammate
Khalid Muhammad in three straight weeks in February 2013.
Frazier, who leads the team in scoring average (17.0) has reached double figures in all four games he has played. He's the first NJCU player to be the NJAC Rookie of the Week in the first two weeks of their collegiate career since
Rashawn Smalls in 2008-09 (week 1 and 2).
Wosu Owning ItChinwe Wosu continues to lead the NJAC in rebounding (10.2) per game. No other player has more than 8.4 per game. He leads the conference in offensive rebounding (4.8) per game and ranks No. 4 nationally in the category.
Wosu also leads the NJAC in field goal percentage at 61.4 percent. No other player is better than .574.
Points TakenNJCU has three of the top eight scorers in the league in
Frazier (17.0 ppg, won't qualify for rankings until he plays in 75% of all games),
Jalen Harris (16.3 ppg) and
Chinwe Wosu (16.0 ppg).
Ata Robinson now leads the NJAC in free throw percentage (.902, 37-41) while
James Julius is third (.867, 26-30) and
Harris is sixth (.813, 61-75).
New KnightNJCU has added a third mid-year player and the 15th member of the roster in junior shooting guard
Andrew Tomlin. A Newark native and Central High graduate, he will wear No. 2.
Raptor Reads - Camden has the league's worst turnover margin—giving up 18.7 per game while only forcing 14.0 turnovers. Camden has lost its six NJAC games by an average margin of 14.8 points.
- Elijah Robles was the NJAC Rookie of the Week in week 6. Abby Bah is third in the league in rebounding (7.3 rpg) and second in defensive boards (5.5).
