MANHATTAN, N.Y. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | The
New Jersey City University women's track and field team had an outstanding first day at the ECAC Championships at the New Balance Track & Field Center in Manhattan, N.Y. on March 6. The team sits in fifth place after Day One, ahead of 20 total teams and 12 teams that scored in the opener of the two-day championships.

The Knights collected 14 points on the day, six coming from their excellent newcomer,
Polina Agutina (Evaptoria, Poland/Number 6), six more coming from their 4x200 Meter Relay Team, and two coming from freshman athlete
Arame Diouf (Weehawken, NJ/Memorial) —
Diouf and
Agutina both scoring in the Long Jump.

Agutina took third place in the Long Jump, with a distance of 4.58 M, with
Diouf not far behind, taking seventh with a distance of 4.41 M.

The 4x200 Meter Relay Team finished in third place with a time of 1:49.91. The foursome was made up of:
Shania Robinson (Jersey City, NJ/Snyder),
Tiffany Ortiz (Jersey City, NJ/University Academy Charter),
Shaneeka Benekin (Jersey City, NJ/Lincoln), and
Zahria Thomas (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson).

Robinson also qualified for the 60 Meter Dash Finals to be held on Saturday, finishing fifth with a time of 8.05.
Lamya Young (Audubon, NJ/Audubon) just barely missed out on qualifying for those same finals, with a time of 8.10.

In the Shot Put,
Shantel Worrell (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) and
Destiny Gittens (Newark, NJ/Newark Tech) just missed out of scoring, taking 10th and 11th.
