John O’Sullivan was a standout defensive performer during his four-year career on the gridiron for the Gothic Knights. O’Sullivan was a four-year starter at defensive end and served as the team’s captain for two seasons (1984 and 1985). During his career with the Gothic Knights, he played on teams that compiled an 11-8 record his last two seasons. O’Sullivan was selected as the team’s Most Valuable Player in each of his last two seasons. He earned Second-team Division III All-America honors in 1985 as selected by Pizza Hut.

“My finest memory was beating St. John’s in our junior year” O’Sullivan recalled. “They [St. John’s] then went on to win 10 games in a row. It was a big win for us and a major step towards establishing a winning program. We weren’t respected at that time but that win went a long way toward changing our image.”

O’Sullivan also earned All-New Jersey Athletic Conference honors as a senior in 1985 after being selected to the Second-team All-NJAC in 1984. He still holds several defensive records, including quarterback sacks in a game (four), season (20) and career (52), as well as collecting an astounding 347 career tackles.

O’Sullivan currently lives in Dumont and is employed as a stockbroker with Barron Chase. He is also a professional firefighter in the North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue Squad, working out of his hometown of North Bergen.
