A consistent scorer and an excellent team player, Harry was “Jersey City State’s first basketball star,” says fellow Hall of Famer Joe Reilly. Will Hayes, a teammate in 1936, recalls the four year standout and former Gothic captain as “an inspirational leader by his activities on and off the court.” Harry was respected and admired for his conscientiousness and warmth both by his fellow students and by the faculty. “I don’t believe there was another student at Jersey City State that was more popular and, at the same time, more humble,” Hayes says.

Hall of Fame Coach Les Fries echoes those sentiments. Harry, he says is “worthy of selection to the Athletic Hall of Fame because of his leadership qualities and all-around team play.”

Additionally, Harry competed three years on the men’s tennis team and played shortstop on the first Jersey City State baseball team.
