Regarded as the greatest running back in Jersey City State football history, Bruce was a three year starter for Coach Jack Stephans. During the Gothics “Glory Years” 1971-1973, Bruce helped the team to consecutive records of 7-2-0, 8-1-0 and 9-1-0, including a share of the NJSCAC Championship in 1972 and a Lambert Poll fourth place ranking in 1973. He earned first team All-NJSCAC honors in both 1972 and 1973, ECAC first team honors in 1973; and a special achievement award from the New Jersey Sportswriters Association in 1973 for scoring the most touchdowns in the nation (25). The latter honor is especially notable since all divisions were counted. Bruce still holds eight school rushing records including most touchdowns in a game (5); most touchdowns in a single season (25); most touchdowns in a career (43); and most yards rushing in a career (1990). In 1973, Naszimento’s offensive efforts helped Jersey City State finish fourth in NCAA Division III scoring offense with a 34.9 points per game average.
