John holds a number of JCSC indoor/outdoor track and field records, but the long jump and triple jump were the events in which he excelled. He won the NAIA District 31 long jump and triple jump championships in 1969 and finished fourth in the triple jump in the New Jersey College and University Outdoor Meet. In 1971, he finished first in both the triple jump and long jump and was a member of the winning 440 yard relay team at the NJSCAC Outdoor Championships. He served as team captain during that year. He also ran cross -country for two years and played football for one season. John received the prestigious ECAC Scholar Athlete Award in 1971. He still competes successfully in track and field age group meets and currently coaches both the Gloucester Township Youth Track Association and the Highland Regional High School Sprinters and Hurdlers.
