As head coach, Paul had a career record of 155 -48 (57-9 at Fries Gym) and his 1978-79 team won the New Jersey State Athletic Conference Championship. His teams set school records for consecutive wins (17) in one season, most wins (25) in one season, best record in one season (25-4) in 1979-80, as well as most consecutive wins in NJSAC play (16). Additionally, they won 28 of 29 conference games from 1979 through 1981. Coach Weinstien’s teams appeared in four post-season tournaments (3-NCAA, I-ECAC) winning the NCAA Div. III South Atlantic Region Championship (1979), the West Region Championship in 1980, and the ECAC Division III Metro NY-NJ Championship in 1981. In 1979, Paul was named Coach of the Year by both the New Jersey Collegiate Basketball Coaches Association and the NY-NJ Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association. Two of his players were named to the Division III All-America Team and two were drafted by the NBA. An excellent defensive player, Paul played four years of basketball at JCSC and was co-captain in his senior year. Before being appointed head basketball coach he served as an assistant coach for six years under his former coach and Athletic Hall of Famer, Larry Schiner.
