    Coach, Director of Athletics

A former great athlete at St. Benedict’s Prep and Seton Hall University and a member of the Hall of Fame at both schools, Les now enters the Jersey City State College Hall of Fame. He is honored for his contributions as athletic director, and coach of basketball, tennis, and baseball, mainly in the thirties and early forties. He also taught English and Physical Education, and was Dean of Men. Perhaps the greatest single achievement in Les Fries career came when Jersey City State named its new physical-education building in his honor, “Fries Hall”. Former basketball greats Joe Lapchick and Nate Holman, of the old Celtics, were some of Les Fries contemporaries.
